NYC Takeout and Delivery Guide Highlights 15 Restaurants
Eater's updated guide spotlights 15 restaurants for takeout and delivery across NYC, including new additions like Mommy Pai's and Bosna Express.

New York City's takeout and delivery scene is stronger than ever, according to a recent guide from Eater. The publication has updated its map of the best options, adding four new spots including Mommy Pai's in Nolita and Bosna Express in Ridgewood.
A few pieces of advice accompany the list. Eater suggests tipping delivery couriers at least five dollars. It also recommends placing orders directly with a restaurant via phone or its website instead of using third-party apps when possible.
969 NYC Coffee and Yumpling
969 NYC Coffee in the East Village is highlighted not for coffee but for its onigirazu, which are rice-based sandwiches. The guide calls them a relatively modern Japanese invention that is hard to find in New York. Chicken katsu and shrimp patty are the recommended fillings. A meal costs around five dollars. The operation is a one-person show, so it is not ideal for those in a hurry.
Yumpling, a Taiwanese dumpling shop, first gained a following at a Long Island City flea market and from a food truck. It now operates storefronts in Long Island City and Midtown.
Global Flavors in Portable Formats
Taco Mahal in Greenwich Village serves Indian curries in a taco format, using roti or naan as the wrapper. Options include chicken curry, saag paneer, and chana masala. The restaurant has multiple locations.
ThisBowl, an Australian chain with over 40 locations in its home country, opened its first New York outlet last year. Eater describes its aesthetic as somewhere between a fashion boutique and an expensive fitness studio. Despite potential skepticism, the guide calls it one of the best chain lunch bowl spots in the city. It recommends the Sophie's Way bowl with poached chicken and a green curry dressing, paired with a Thai basil and cucumber soda.
Sandwiches and Burritos
Sunny & Annie's Deli in the East Village is open 24 hours and is known for creative sandwiches, often named after political and pop culture figures. One example is a pho sandwich with cantaloupe.
Son Del North specializes in rice-free burritos. It started on the Lower East Side and has a second location in the West Village. The guide praises its use of house-made flour tortillas.
New Additions to the Guide
The update specifically adds four establishments. Mommy Pai's is a Thai chicken finger joint from the owners of Thai Diner. Its halal, gluten-free, and dairy-free fingers are seasoned with lemongrass, garlic, and coconut. Sauces include a Thai hot honey and a Phuket Island sauce with galangal.
Bosna Express in Ridgewood serves cevapi sandwiches and pljeskavica on flatbread, accompanied by ajvar and a shepherd salad with feta and dill.
Build Sundry in Bushwick is noted as a neighborhood staple for sandwiches like a reuben with house-cured pastrami, breakfast burritos, and buttermilk biscuits. The shop also sells cheese, wine, and pantry items.
Taqueria Al Pastor, also in Bushwick, offers tacos, burritos, nachos, and quesadillas at reasonable prices.
More Takeout Standouts
Maxi's Noodle is highlighted for its wonton soup and has multiple locations. Mama Yoshi Mini Mart in Ridgewood, which began as a pop-up, serves Japanese American food like katsu chicken sandwiches designed for takeout.
Trinciti Roti Shop and Restaurant is a family-run Trinidadian spot famous for its doubles, which are flatbreads with curried chickpeas. Syko in Brooklyn merges Syrian and Korean flavors, offering items like stuffed grape leaves and a signature Fat Boy sandwich-a Korean pancake stuffed with bulgogi. The same family runs Dukan Syko, a grocery store with takeout-friendly pastries and snacks.
Ba Xuyên in Sunset Park is praised for its banh mi, offering 11 styles. Recommendations include the banh mi pate thit nguoi with six meats or the banh mi ca moi with sardines. Tashkent Supermarket, now with a Manhattan location near Washington Square Park, has a hot bar where customers can build a picnic with items like plov and savory samsa pastries.
