Aldi's Specially Selected Naan has been declared better than the name-brand Stonefire version in a taste test by The Takeout. The store's private-label naan costs $5.49 for a 17.6-ounce pack of four pieces, working out to roughly $0.31 per ounce.

Stonefire's comparably sized naan, sold in packs of two, is priced at $0.36 per ounce or more at other grocery stores. The Takeout's research supports a rumor that both breads are made by the same company, though Aldi has not confirmed its sourcing.

In the test, Aldi's naan was noted for its oven-fresh feel, soft and chewy texture, and a slightly tangy flavor. It was also found to be less doughy and a little more browned than the Stonefire version. Both brands produce naan that is soft and fluffy.

How To Use Aldi's Naan

The bread is versatile. For personal pizzas, the garlic version is particularly recommended as a crust. It pairs well with dips like tzatziki, garlic spread, Park Street Deli Jalapeño Artichoke Dip, or Simply Nature Organic Red Pepper Hummus.

Naan can replace regular bread for sandwiches. It works for everything from grilled cheese to veggie sandwiches. Using a panini press adds a toasted, warm element.

It also serves as a base for sweet treats. Ideas include chocolate chip dessert pizza, fruit-covered sweet flatbreads, or cinnamon sugar chips. To make the chips, slice the naan into triangles, toss with melted butter, cinnamon, and sugar, then bake in an air fryer or oven. Serve with dips like caramel sauce, dulce de leche, or Park Street Deli Chocolate Chip Cannoli Dip. For more inspiration on assembling great meals, check our fixtures page.

Fans of the product love its value and texture. The Takeout's test confirms it stands up to, and surpasses, a leading name brand.
