Jignesh Patel has been named the 2026 International Franchise Association Franchisee of the Year by Potbelly. The award recognizes his strategic growth and community leadership in expanding the brand's presence in Austin.
Recognition Details
Jignesh Patel will be honored at the IFA26 Advocacy Summit in Washington, D.C., from September 14 to 16, 2026. Recipients of this award are nominated by their brands and represent leading franchise owners who demonstrate excellence in entrepreneurship, community outreach, workforce development, and service.
Jennifer Durham, Senior Vice President of Franchising and Development at Potbelly, praised Patel's approach. "Jignesh embodies the entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to people that define a great Potbelly franchisee," she said. She noted he has grown thoughtfully, building strong teams and investing in communities to deliver a great neighborhood experience.
Patel stated that the honor reflects the collective effort behind his operations. "Being named an IFA Franchisee of the Year is an incredible honor and a reflection of the team that has helped us build and grow," he said. He emphasized a focus on growing the right way, investing in people, delivering great food, and building shops that become part of their communities.
Austin Expansion
Patel and his fellow franchisee, Nitin Patel, dramatically expanded their initial commitment in the Austin market. Their original six-shop development agreement grew to a plan for 15 locations across the Austin area. The pair were among the first franchisees to participate in the Potbelly 50/50 Large Area Developer Incentive Program.
Currently, three Austin-area Potbelly shops are operating under their leadership, with a fourth location opening soon. This expansion shows the brand's strategy of awarding franchises to experienced operators and entering markets strategically.
Leadership and Values
Community outreach is central to Jignesh Patel's ownership philosophy. He focuses on creating welcoming neighborhood gathering places rather than just sandwich shops. Employee development is another pillar of his approach; he provides opportunities for staff to grow into leadership roles.
He invests in experienced leadership, strong teams, and infrastructure to support long-term success. Patel sees tremendous opportunity ahead with Potbelly but remains committed to his core values of people, food, and community.
The nearly 50-year-old brand remains focused on delivering craveable food and neighborhood hospitality. Patel will accept his award at the IFA26 Advocacy Summit in Washington, D.C., this September.
