A new taqueria and cafe is opening in Brooklyn, expanding the offerings of Olmo, a Mexican restaurant in the Bed-Stuy neighborhood. Peral, which means "pear tree" in Spanish, will be located next door to Olmo at 105 Saratoga Avenue, near Decatur Street.

Peral will be a more casual spot than Olmo, serving tacos with a focus on vegetarian and vegan options. The menu will include a variety of tacos, including guisados, which are a type of Mexican stew served in a corn tortilla.

The owners of Peral include Cicatriz co-owners and siblings chef Scarlett Lindeman and beverage director Jake Lindeman, as well as Olmo chef de cuisine Miguel Mendez. Lindeman has a background in Mexican cultures and cuisines, having studied at New York University and earning a PhD in sociology at CUNY Graduate Center.

Lindeman's experience in Mexico City has influenced the menu at Peral, which will feature dishes such as the quelites, made with seasonal braised wild greens, and the seared rib-eyes with jalapeño escabeche. The menu will also include a variety of drinks, including Mexican drinks like a frozen Carajillo Peral and a draft El Cuauhtémoc.

Peral's daytime hours will feature coffee made using Intelligentsia beans as well as teas and drinks, including a horchata cold brew and lattes. The space will be designed by Studio Woodman, the firm behind Olmo, and will include arched hallways, a skylight, and lots of plants.

| Item | Price | | --- | --- | | Chocoflan (pastel imposible) | $9 | | Sweet quesadilla | $5 | | Champola (Merida-style sundae) | $6 | | Horchata cold brew | $6 | | Lattes | $7 | | Matcha lattes with hibiscus jelly | $9 | | Iced Peral Fizz (espresso tonic with prickly pear syrup) | $7 | | Arnoldo Palmero (iced black tea with tepache) | $6 |

Peral will start with cafe hours from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. with pastries, tamales, and coffee on weekdays, and then 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends. Dinner hours are from 5 to 10 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday.
